Scott, in response to Mr. Cathy supporting murders in other countries: Winshape, a nonprofit “charity” owned by the restaurant chain, annually donates to the Family Research Council, led by Tony Perkins, who is famous for his demonizing propaganda slurs against homosexuals.
The council has lobbied Congress to not condemn Uganda’s “kill the gays bill,” dubbed so because it states it is fine to kill gay citizens. (So Mr. Cathy is ok with murder (ten commandments), but can't tolerate homosexuals?) This along with donations to other hate groups, through Winshape is actually what caused the backlash with most people as opposed to Mr. Cathy just stating his views.
Marriage has previously been between men and women because of societal norms and marriage is older than written record. As I stated previously, only recently has marriage come to be about love. You have to also look at the history of women, who have also up until recently in most cultures, not been treated as full citizens and more like property. A man was married to a woman for her to bear his children and take care of his house, for families to combine farms, and so on as stated before, not for love and companionship. Brides families have given payment in the form of dowries to insure their daughter to a good husband and sometimes to move their family to a higher status. The wife was property unlike American society today. So you would not see 2 men getting married because they were equal, men wanted "property", who would have been the "property" and taken care of the house? Why would a man downgrade himself?
The Bible also talks of women serving their husbands and being their property. In the Bible, men can have as many wives or concubines as he wants. A woman has to marry a man who rapes her.
You mention men and women fitting together like a plug and an outlet, so is marriage all about sex? What if someone is unable to have sex, either psychologically or physically their parts don't work. Should they not be allowed to get married? If they don't fit with someone like a plug and an outlet like you say, wouldn't that be unnatural?
I'm sorry, you are wrong again and need to look up history. This nation was not founded on Christian ideals, in fact most of our founding fathers were Deist, not Christian, which included: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. Deism is a pagan religion. Since the founding fathers were not all of the same religion, they did not expect everyone else to be, hence separation of church and state. And yes, freedom of religion does include freedom from religion, our great country does not require anyone to practice any faith. The pledge of allegiance did not even have "under God" until 1954. You would have to name a specific scripture in a specific building for me to give you a reason why its there, but the use of God in any statement can be for multiple religions.
I do believe the founding fathers sat around and made laws that were the benefit of the whole as opposed to looking it all up in the Bible. Sure some may have been influenced by Christian values, but some of those values are also expressed in other religions too. I mean, come on, who really wants someone running around and murdering people? So, Ten Commandments or not, it was going to be on the list. They also made separation of church and state, so not influenced by the Bible there.
Again, gay marriage being legal does not force you or your church to do anything accept recognize the union legally. Churches don't have to marry people now that they don't feel should get married, so nothing would change. There are churches that would allow gay marriage, if legal, and that is where they would go, or to the Judges, JPs, or boat captains that some heterosexual couples go to.
You posted "Like I said before, let them get strung together and have tax breaks and be like the heterosexual world. Not a problem." That my friend is what they are asking for and you just said you are fine with it. Your objection is all about semantics.
Marriage is just an English word and every language has one like it. If you want to say God created all languages, it would be indirectly at best. Anytime you have people, or even animals for that matter, they find a way to communicate and that is how languages and words (for humans) have been produced over the years. If you leave twin babies alone together long enough, they will also make up their own language. Language is not a sacred thing, its just words and the fact that you consider them so might be a sin in itself. You should not hold words up there with God. God should be all you hold sacred. Saying it is just a word does not take its meaning away. Marriage is not a religious word, because in our society, you can be "married" without being joined in a church. Atheists can be married.
Not everyone is religious and Christianity is a type of religion. If you describe it as being more than a religion to you, more power to you, but that applies to you and anyone else who chooses so, not everyone. I think other people of other religions would be offended by you stating they do not have a relationship with their God, you might want to look that up.
You said "I don’t believe that anyone has the authority to marry any unless they are a true follower of Jesus." So do you not recognize atheist and Jewish marriages? They are legal in this country.
You can site passages out of your Bible that are against homosexuality, but your Bible is a translation. The research I have done on my own (I don't claim to be an expert) shows, those statements were put there later or written differently than the original. What does the Bible really teach about? Loving and taking care of each other. Allowing God to judge us, not judging each other. Helping the needy. Many Christians I know have lost sight of this. Sure they make donations to good will, but when was the last time they fed a homeless person, or gave EVERYTHING they don't NEED to charity. There is a lot of gluttony, pride, lust, greed, envy, laziness, and wrath going on in this country and I think Christians need to worry about themselves and their sins, rather than everyone else's.
Who does it harm for 2 consenting adults to get married?
Homosexuals in this day and age want to get married now, because it is about love and taking care of someone and being taken care of. Doesn't everyone deserve that, no matter what sex the other person is. You can not help who you are attracted to and fall in love with. At one time my marriage to my husband would have been illegal for more than one reason. I was raised it was not ok to be with someone like him, and yes, as I said before, I am a woman and he is ALL man and we were both born this way. We are best friends and I can't imagine someone saying its illegal to be legally married to him because we are of 2 different cultures and religions. Unmarried homosexual couples can be denied being at each other's bedside on their death bed, because they are not considered family. That is wrong. They should not be told you have to fall in love with the opposite sex to make a family. As for children, I work for Child Protective Services and 2 good parents are always better than 1, no matter what sex they are! Homosexual parents and people are not harmful to children anymore than heterosexual people are. Children should be encouraged to be who they are and not what society thinks they should be.
You stated "There is no need for there to be teachings in school of 2 moms or 2 dads and it’s ok to be gay." Schools do not now, nor will they when gay marriage is legalized (and it will be), teach children about who they should be with when they get married and that statement is ridiculous! They do need to teach about tolerance and treating people with respect no matter their lifestyle, religion or lack there of, culture, hair style, whatever!
Your rights to your religion are not being trampled, the problem is you feel you are being trampled when everyone else does not do as you do. What we are asking is that you live your life the way you want and not expect everyone else to be just like you. We have our own values and beliefs and want to live our lives too. Gay marriage does not effect you! It does not force you to do anything! It does not keep you from doing anything!
We are not Bigots for disagreeing with you, that does not make a Bigot. Believing that you are better than others and keeping them from having the same rights as you, makes you one. Your arguments are the same as were used for justification of slavery and for keeping minorities and women from having equal rights.
If I had to guess, I would say you are an older individual that grew up around a lot of hate as a child.
I was raised in a Christian home and in Christian schools, but I have spent a lot of time on my own researching the Bible. Due to current Christian churches and trends, I do not consider myself a modern day Christian. I claim to be non-denominational. Most Christians today do not live for God or do his work. When you discuss homosexuality, you seem angry and disgusted, this is not Christian.
Our country is a melting pot of cultures and religions and to be a citizen here, you have to get use to it, this will not change. It is not for Christians as it is not for white men. We all have to respect each other and not try to impose our beliefs and values on others. If you want your children to have a Christian education, then do as my parents did and put them in Christian schools. Public schools are for everyone and will have more worldly teachings.

I believe that you can be born again and gay, but not actively living that lifestyle. If you are, you are living in sin. Romans 1:24-32
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
“”actually reading the New Testament first to keep the redemption and Resurrection of Jesus Christ in proper perspective.”” Uhhh…ok? Not quite sure what it is you are trying to say.
Sin is sin. There is no degree to God. We all sin. Agreed. We must repent of those sins, not continue to live in them. We really don’t know who is going to hell and who isn’t at this point.
“”Getting to Heaven is actually not a difficult process.”” There is no process. God offers His gift and we accept or deny. That sounds like a very secular statement. One who does not actually understand.
“”Belief in Christ is enough”” If there is no growth and you continue to sin or live in sin, were you ever really saved?
I cannot agree with your statement about the Bible not being the literal translation. Either you believe all of it or none of it. Who are you to say what has been translated correctly or not? So this allows you to go through and pick out what you deem to be right or wrong or suitable for your lifestyle? There are things there I don’t like or would prefer were not there but they are and that’s His word.
These ‘churches’ that ‘now offer blessings’ for same sex unions clearly do not follow the Word of God. It is plain as day as to this lifestyle or is the part of the Bible you don’t think is a literal translation?
There should be no compromise on this and other issues at all no matter how loud someone screams. The real issue is following Christ.
As for Dan Cathy, if he is really supporting what you say he is, no I do not support that. Icannot. I don't think anyone should be killed for their beliefs. Christians are killed everyday in countries around the world for what they believe. Their goal is to give out the Good News.

Icannot. I don’t think anyone should be killed for their beliefs. Christians are killed everyday in countries around the world for what they believe. Their goal is to give out the Good News.

Actually, in reference to the bill congress was making to have a public condemnation of the Ugandan "gay-killer law"; the lobbying done by the FRC was not to stop it but to change the language that strongly suggested that homosexuality is "the right of all people". They simply wish to change wording, not stop the bill. Not to say I am entirely in favor of even that move.

You read the New Testament first to keep the resurrection and redemption in proper perspective? That's that like telling someone about the cure to their terrible disease so they have a proper perspective of it before telling them they even have the disease or what it is. As an example, the patient has cancer but doesn't know it. He doesn't even know what cancer is. Or what chemo is. The doctor walks in after getting results from some testing and starts off with (in a hypothetical situation, remember...and slightly on a smart-alic/satirical manner) "Chemotherapy will cure you. We pretty much radiate the crud out of you until you are glowing a nice golden yellow and the problem goes away. Now you will have to live the rest of your life without hair and could be ridiculed about being bald, but that is completely worth it." The patient's response is going to be "what the heck do I have and why do I need to be irradiated?!" "Oh, you didn't know? You have cancer!" "What's can-you know what, I'm going to go see someone else who will actually give me something to help." Biblically speaking he ends up getting into drugs and alcohol and other stuff that temporarily gives the illusion of no pain and no problems but he still will have cancer and die from it. Pretty much the same thing when you start with "Jesus died on the cross in Calvary so that if you only believe in Him you will be saved, although you might get the snot beaten out of you for your belief in Jesus." Then move into "You are a horrible sinner. Have you ever lied? yes, okay, well...what do you call a person who tells lies? a liar. God says if you commit one sin it is as though you committed them all. You have this problem of sin. Yours is in the form of telling lies, and it's horribly fatal. You'll end up in what God calls "the second death", the "pit of fire", and even "Hell", a place of eternal torment and suffering...Oh, and gnashing of teeth."

Just something to think about there.

And here's the problem with some of the arguments: They are all invalid.

The Bible was translated by many men to english in 1611 after having been commissioned for translation by King James (hence the version "King James Version"). Yes, this was 400 years ago. Unless I'm forgetting how to do math again. But for 400 years people have learned Hebrew and gone back and compared the original Hebrew with the Old Testament and the Hebrew NT with our NT. For 400 years people have been learning Greek and going back to the Greek NT and comparing it with out NT. Here's the big problem with "it was written a long time ago by a lot of people": The King James Version has, for 400 years, been proven time and time again to be the best translation we could possible have of the original texts.

There are many denominations: but if they don't follow biblical teachings they do not follow the God of the Bible which means they cannot believe upon the Jesus of the Bible which culminates with them being unable to be saved. If they follow a translation that *changes* the wording of the Bible (ie. Mormon teachings say that Jesus told the thief on the cross that he shall "live as though with me in Heaven", when, according to the original texts, the translation is that Jesus said "You shall be with me in Heaven". This completely changes and perverts God's Word. That means they can't believe in the God of the Bible because they don't even believe in the same Bible. (despite the fact they have the KJV translation as well...they just still believe that Jesus didn't say what the Bible says he said) If they don't believe in the same Bible, they cannot believe in the true God of the unadultered, unaltered, unperverted, true Bible. And no belief in the real Jesus. And no Heaven. Which they perverted the image of Heaven anyway so what's it matter? It's all called idolatry because these different versions and denominations are changing God to fit their worldly views. This is specifically mentioned as idolatry.

Also, if you have a problem with the translations, learn and become fluent in Biblical Hebrew and go learn what it says. ie. yahweh ruach is the "the spirit of God", "ruach" being "spirit" or "holy spirit". "ruach" also translates to "air", "breath", "water", "soul". Essentially, it literally means every single word that biblically makes up life. So "Yahweh Ruach" is the literal Life of God. And seeing as all these things were used for the creation of human life, we are literally the Life of God. And by sin we brought death into this world, perpetually being born into sin. "for the wages of sin is death". When we sin, not only are we making an account that gives us death, we are killing ourself. If we kill that which is made by the "Ruach" of God, we kill our given "Ruach", we kill our given Life...we commit suicide.

There, I know a little bit of Hebrew that relates mostly to the Hebrew names used for God and have just taught you an amazing lesson: Sin is so bad and you commit all by one because one sin kills Life. You just learned something about the actual translation of the Hebrew Bible. So, again, if you are not content with KJV and whatever else we have come up with, go get yourself a Hebrew Bible and a Greek NT and start learning.

Oh, and when the Bible talks about "believing on Christ and repenting", it's talking about turning from sin. Not turning from sin and starting to do righteousnesses on your own for "while we are in our iniquities, all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags before God". It means stop trying to do anything yourself and let Jesus do all the work. In other words, an active homosexual who is also a "Christian" has failed to allow Jesus to do all the work while continuing to knowingly and willfully sin against God (like swimming towards the ocean while lifeguard Jesus tries to pull you towards land) and in that the person is NOT saved (lifeguard Jesus knows when the person He is saving from drowning in the oceans of the world is still trying to swim towards the world and will just let that person go...kind of how it works).

Plus there is the fact that Christianity is not a religion but a life. You don't "practice" it, you don't "keep it's tenants". You live the life of Christ after Salvation...you can't do that if you do not make His life your life...in other words you can't let Jesus live His life through you if you purposely let sin or the world into your life. As a Christian it should be horribly detestable that any actual Christian (born again) would support a type of marriage that Jesus specifically spoke out against. How can you both love Jesus and tell Him, the all powerful, all knowing Son of God who is of God and has all authority in both the heavens and the earth, that what the world wants to be right is more important than what He deems is right? It's like going to get on a subway train but when you get one foot on you keep the other on the gound outside the train door. A couple of things will happen: you will probably be forcibly removed the train, you might (might) get yanked into the train, or nobody does anything, the train gets to going as the doors try to close around you, and you turn into a pretty new paint job for the train door on both sides, the wall of the tunnel, the ground, and probably a few people around where you just were.

And last but not leasting, separation of Church and State was about the government not making any laws concerning establishments of religion. SoCnS argument is invalid.

Without going into an entirely different subject, I am both gay and born again. Like Lady GaGa says, I was "born this way." I knew from a very early age that I was attracted to males. I have also read the Bible, from cover to cover, actually reading the New Testament first to keep the redemption and Resurrection of Jesus Christ in proper perspective. I was born under the Blood, not the Law. Getting to Heaven is actually not a difficult process. Belief in Christ is enough. We all are human and all sin. Why is one sin more important than another? People are living in sin everyday and are not going to hell. I will also counter that I believe that the Bible is the word of God but translated by men which is indicative that it is not a literal translation word for word. Also, not every church of the Christian faith believes as you do. Does that make them wrong? Many denominations now offer blessings of same sex unions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blessing_of_same-sex_unions_in_Christian_churches . For a long time, I agreed that we were splitting hairs over the word marriage, I would have had no problem with "civil unions" but far right conservative extremists, i.e. Fred Phelps, Jerry Falwell and others have continued to demonize the LGBT community and the far left extremists within the LGBT community and some even toward the center are pushing back. Sadly, in this country, it's not about compromise or what's best for all of us, it's about who screams the loudest.

Additionally Scott, I do not have a problem with Dan Cathy's beliefs or your beliefs for that matter. I have a problem with how he spends an enormous amount of money. Do you agree with the criminalization of homosexuality? Do you agree that in countries that do criminalize homosexuality that the death penalty is appropriate?
